Landscaping Project for First United Methodist Church
Details are being worked out for a service project for the church where our monthly service unit meetings are held. We are looking for a troop or group of scouts to design and oversee this project. More details to come.

The Pointe at Cedar Park Assisted Living
The Pointe at Cedar Park is an assisted living facility located at 450 Discovery Blvd in Cedar Park. The Monarch Service Unit will have an ongoing service project with troops signing up for which month they would like to help. Girls can make either table favors, door hangers or decorative pins for residents to wear. Projects should commemorate a particular theme (i.e., Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Fourth of July) for the month. We take troop signups for each month. Sign up at monthly service unit meetings or by emailing the Service Project Coordinator.

Troops can set up a time and day for delivery directly with the residents. Contact Kelly Kavanaugh, Recreations Program Director, at 512-259-6525 or kkavanaugh@seniorlifestyle.com.

Volunteer Opportunities at Bastrop State Park
Volunteer at Bastrop State Park in the areas of Houston toad pond work and erosion control. There are four volunteer days for the winter to work on erosion control in those areas. These projects involve spreading mulch along Houston toad pond edges and installing straw logs/wattles on hillsides. This work is considered easy to moderate and may involve bending, carrying buckets of mulch and walking long distances.

These projects are appropriate for all ages and groups!

Each workday runs from 9am to 3pm. The following are the dates for our winter volunteer events:
December 10
January 14
January 28
February 11

Reservations are required so they know how many people to expect. You can register with Katie Raney at 512-718-0211 or by email at Katie.Raney@tpwd.state.tx.us(preferred). You must register by 5pm on the Friday before the event to be allowed to volunteer.

Volunteer should wear close-toed shoes, long pants and long-sleeved shirts. You should also bring work gloves. All other equipment, including hardhats, will be provided. Because they are dependent on staff and material available, we cannot accept requests for specific projects. If you volunteer for a workday, you are volunteering to do either Houston toad pond work or erosion control, or both.

Please let them know if you have any questions or wish to volunteer. When registering for this volunteer day, we need the following information:
- Name
- Group size

If you do not volunteer for any of these dates, you will still remain in our volunteer database.

Help for LISD Science Materials Center
A volunteer opportunity for Junior level Girl Scouts and up at the Leander ISD Science Materials Center (SMC). They supply all the elementary schools with science modules that rotate every 9 weeks. There is A LOT of prep involved to get things ready for our "refurb" period (the 2 weeks we have to refurbish every module that was on campus). We need mostly counting things done and can package them to be picked up or can have a troop come after school. Brenda Howard is the contact at either brenda.howard@leanderisd.org or 570-0277 if you would like to help. Hours are 8am-4:30pm.

Pull Tabs for Ronald McDonald House
Each year, the proceeds from pull tab recycling supplement the monetary donations the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) receive to support families of hospitalized children. This will be an ongoing service project for the Monarch Service Unit. Create a troop collection jar and start collecting pull tabs. An activity and tour will be coordinated in the spring. Get more information on the pull tab program.

HEB Plastic Bags
Troop 180 is collecting HEB plastic bags. Bring bags to any of our service unit meetings.

Recycle Your Holiday Cards
Troop #351 is collecting greeting cards for St. Jude's Childrens Ranch as on ongoing troop project. Batches of cards will be mailed to St. Jude quarterly.

This program benefits the children at St. Jude’s Ranch to learn entrepreneurship skills. The children participate in making the new cards by removing the front and attaching a new back. The result is a beautiful new card made by the children and volunteers. The benefits are two-fold: customers receive "green" holiday cards for use and learn the benefits and importance of "going green". http://www.stjudesranch.org/shop/recycled-card-program/
